Welcome to Coffee Grinders 101!

Psst...I’ll tell you the secret to a good cup of coffee. Come closer because I don’t want the world to know, this is, after all, just between us and should be kept hush, hush.

You may think that a good cup of coffee is in the bean. How can you have a perfect cup if you buy the bargain bean? While this may be the case, it is not exactly true since my mother, an amazing coffee maker, could make no named brand taste like a fifty dollar a cup coffee.

You may also think that it is in the coffee machine. Another excellent answer and in some cases it can be the coffee machine but I have seen inexpensive machines brew up simple masterpieces. Again, see the reference to my mother in the above paragraph.

Lastly, you might think that it is in the water or the amount of grounds that you use and again, you aren’t wrong but even using cold water and the perfect blend of water to bean, you can still be left with a horrible cup of coffee.

Although all of those things are important element to a great cup of coffee, they aren’t the secret. Are you ready to find out what it is?

The secret is in the grounds. Yes, that might seem a little vague but a good cup of coffee really depends on how well you know your grinds and for that matter the machine that you are using it for. If you can’t select the proper grind for a certain machine, then you are not going to have a chance in making that perfect cup of coffee.

Many people feel that a grind is a grind is a grind. Fine grind can be used by any coffee maker and for that matter so can course, it is all a preference thing. In some ways, they are right but machines do require specific types of grinds and it is important to understand what your machine requires. It is also important to really understand the difference between pre-ground and fresh ground coffee and all the ins and outs surrounding making your coffee grounds.
